French Lick Resort Earns Golf Magazine Silver Medal Award

French Lick Resort, the award winning resort destination located in southern Indiana, has earned GOLF Magazine's prestigious Silver Medal Golf Resort

French Lick Resort, the award winning resort destination located in southern Indiana, has earned GOLF Magazine's prestigious Silver Medal Golf Resort Award. French Lick Resort is the only destination from the Hoosier state among the 2010 Premier Resorts awards. The awards were announced in the recent biennial review of America's top resort destinations, which began in 1988 and is considered the oldest and most authoritative rating of the game's finest resort properties.

GOLF Magazine compiled its list of top resort destinations by calling on more than 8,000 readers to vote at Golf.com to determine the winners. GOLF Magazine's Premier Resorts were determined by four criteria; golf, lodging, food and drink, and service. GOLF apportioned 40% of the total to the golf product and 20% to each of the other categories.

The highly acclaimed Midwest resort destination makes its debut to the Silver Medal rankings thanks to a $500 million historic restoration and casino development project that included the development of a new Pete Dye golf course that is generating industry buzz across the country, as well as the restoration of the historic Donald Ross course, which together put the resort over the top in the golf category.

The restoration project also included the West Baden Springs Hotel, French Lick Springs Hotel, a new world-class spa, new casino, as well as new and improved dining options, which also helped in receiving the honor.

The new Pete Dye course, regarded as one of the most breathtaking and exciting 18 holes of golf in the country, was carefully carved on a dramatic site offering a variety of elevation changes, rugged and dramatic terrain, narrow fairways and vintage Pete Dye characteristics. There are spectacular views from every hole, some that stretch for over 40 miles.

The course is already on the national golf radar. In 2010 it will be the site of the PGA of America's Professional National Championship. The resort predicts this will be the first of several high-profile professional events it will host on the Dye layout in the future.

French Lick Resort is the only resort in the world that offers the classic history of its original course, a 1917 Donald Ross creation, and Dye's modern-day design. This combination by two legendary Hall of Fame architects is a rare opportunity for golfers to experience the best pairing of unique golf courses found anywhere in the country.
