Golf Course Information

Description

On March 20th 1901 cards were sent out for anyone interested in forming a country club, to meet at the downtown office of Judge J. W. Ranstead on March 24th. Fifty men showed up and forty signed the list. Reverend Chambers talked of having lived next to St. Andrews and playing over there. They agreed to set up committees for organization, grounds and membership. Each man agreed to $25.00 and annual dues were not to exceed $10.00

The next meeting was at Perry Fullers downtown office on March 26th, and 75 men attended. They set up a committee to prepare rules and bylaws and another was formed to find suitable land for a golf course. Five different farms were investigated and a part of the Owen Weld farm was favored if available and if Tom Bendelow, an imported architect would approve it. [He later did Medinah and St. Charles and many other nearby courses.]

At a meeting on April 2nd, officers and committees were named. The President was W.W. Sherwin, Vice President. P.B.Fuller , Secretary A.W. Church, and Treasurer George S. Foote. Directors were George E. Hunter, George D. Sherman, C.H. Eno, L.B. Hamlin jr. R.F. Fitz and W.O. Jones.
